Why I Created This Site
Jamaica has been part of my life for as long as I can remember.
My dad first came to Jamaica in the 1970s, and I made my first trip before I could even walk. By the time I was a kid, Negril had become a second home, with our family spending weeks there every year.
But what made Jamaica special to us wasn't just the beaches or the weather. It was the people.
I grew up knowing local families, eating at small restaurants, riding on boats, exploring the island and experiencing a side of Jamaica that most tourists never get to see. When I was about four, I met a local kid on the beach who became one of my best friends. Forty years later, even though he now lives in England, we still meet back in Negril every year at his family's small resort—the same place where our friendship began. Jamaica for me has and always will be about the relationships.
As I got older, I realized how different that experience was from the way many people visit Jamaica today.
There's nothing wrong with staying at a beautiful all-inclusive resort. Enjoy the beach, the pool and everything that comes with it.
But don't leave Jamaica without actually seeing Jamaica.
Eat jerk chicken from a roadside grill. Have fresh lobster on the beach. Spend the day with a local boat captain. Hire a driver and explore the island. Find a reggae show. Visit a local restaurant. Talk to people. Listen to their stories. And don't be afraid to change your plans because someone you met told you about something better happening down the road.
That's why I created this site.
I don't want it to be another website that simply sells excursions. I want it to be a connection between visitors and trusted local drivers, captains, restaurants, cooks, guides and businesses that make Jamaica special.
We'll help you figure out where to go, what to do and who to trust, so experiencing the island outside your resort doesn't have to feel intimidating or complicated.
Because after more than forty years of coming to Jamaica, I've learned that the beaches are beautiful and the sunsets are incredible.
But the people are Jamaica.
And that's the Jamaica I want to help you experience.
